Albert Batlle, deputy mayor for Prevention and Safety at Barcelona City Council; Georgina Flamme, manager of the Abertis Foundation, and Gemma Tarafa, councillor for Health, Aging and Care, have today unveiled ‘El Apagón’ (‘The Blackout’), a campaign to heighten awareness of the dangers of driving after having consumed alcohol or drugs. The initiative is aimed mainly at young people who hit the town over the Christmas period.

Abertis Foundation will carry out an awareness campaign in the centre of Madrid tonight aimed at raising awareness among young people of the need to behave sensibly when behind the wheel, in particular when they are on a night out and at greater risk of not exercising due care and attention.

The socioeconomic impact of traffic accidents with child victims in Spain is 770 million dollars (about 700 million euros) per year, about 16.68 dollars (15.08 euros) per capita. This is demonstrated by the report The impact of traffic accidents with child victims, carried out by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in eight countries of the world commissioned by the Abertis Foundation, which has been presented today in Madrid.

Under the hashtag #LightUpYourLife, the campaign seeks to raise  public awareness of the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol, with  the aim of reducing the number of traffic accidents during the celebrations of  Fiestas Patrias.

The Abertis Foundation was appointed today as a new member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration Group. The decision was made at the 27th biannual meeting of the UN, which is taking place this week on Crete, Greece. Abertis is the first infrastructures company to form part of this committee.

The Abertis Group has added France to the network of host countries for its Road Safety Forums. Sanef, the group's subsidiary in the country, today held the first edition of its Road Safety Forum, a platform for the exchange of views on road safety, in Paris. Autopistas del Sol’s road safety education programme organises road safety guided tours for schools in its catchment area to promote road safety education and prevention by handing out leaflets featuring handy road awareness tips.

La Fundación Abertis, el Ayuntamiento de Madrid y la Fundación Síndrome de Down de Madrid, han firmado un convenio de colaboración para llevar a cabo el proyecto “Cooperante Vial”, que se pondrá en marcha durante el curso escolar.
