Albert Batlle, deputy mayor for Prevention and Safety at Barcelona City Council; Georgina Flamme, manager of the Abertis Foundation, and Gemma Tarafa, councillor for Health, Aging and Care, have today unveiled ‘El Apagón’ (‘The Blackout’), a campaign to heighten awareness of the dangers of driving after having consumed alcohol or drugs. The initiative is aimed mainly at young people who hit the town over the Christmas period.

The socioeconomic impact of traffic accidents with child victims in Spain is 770 million dollars (about 700 million euros) per year, about 16.68 dollars (15.08 euros) per capita. This is demonstrated by the report The impact of traffic accidents with child victims, carried out by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in eight countries of the world commissioned by the Abertis Foundation, which has been presented today in Madrid.

The Abertis Foundation was appointed today as a new member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration Group. The decision was made at the 27th biannual meeting of the UN, which is taking place this week on Crete, Greece. Abertis is the first infrastructures company to form part of this committee.

The Abertis Group has added France to the network of host countries for its Road Safety Forums. Sanef, the group's subsidiary in the country, today held the first edition of its Road Safety Forum, a platform for the exchange of views on road safety, in Paris. This edition involved representatives of the Abertis Group, public road safety authorities and other companies with which Abertis works in this field such as the carmaker Renault.
