The Abertis Foundation has closed this weekend the summer season of actions of awareness of road safety and responsible conduction aimed for young people during their leisure moments in the city of Madrid.
In these actions, monitors in chair of wheels affected by spinal injuries because of a traffic accident, together with volunteers of the Red Cross, arouse young people during their leisure moments in order to implant a responsible conduct in the road. They do this explaining their real experiences and concerning them about the dangers of driving under the effects of alcohol, drugs or other distractions.
With the collaboration of the Red Cross, the Institute Guttmann, the local Police and with the support of the Town hall of Madrid, the campaign has been carried out during two weekends in areas of high night life of the Centro district: on Friday, the 8th of July in the Plaza Dos de Mayo, in Malasaña; and last Friday, the 15th in the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada, in La Latina.
The actions carried out in the capital are part of the campaign that the Abertis Foundation develops in Madrid and Catalonia. In turn, this campaign is under the umbrella of a program of sensitization “You only have one life” developed by the Foundation in the lasts years and that has moved successfully to other countries where it operates.
Sergi Loughney, the director of the Abertis Foundation, affirms: “Road safety is a priority for the Abertis Group, carrying out actions addressed to all the implied groups, from education for the children, awareness for the young people and prevention for the older drivers. These three aspects form the basic props to help reduce the accidents and the collateral effects that this causes “.
