Following on from its activities in Spain and France, the Abertis Foundation has now taken its awareness campaign, encouraging young people to drive responsibly in their leisure time, to Chile.
Abertis Autopistas Chile and the Abertis Foundation, in collaboration with CONASET (National Road Safety Commission of the Chilean Ministry of Transport), the Carabineros de Chile (the Chilean national police force), and the Fundación Corre Conmigo (Run with Me Foundation), has undertaken its first awareness campaign for young people to a popular nightlife area in Santiago, Chile.
Volunteers from the different bodies and people who have been left disabled as a result of a traffic accident, handed out information leaflets to those people enjoying an evening out in the neighbourhood, to raise their awareness of the effects of driving whilst distracted or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Executive Secretary of CONASET, Gabriela Rosende Bustos, underlined the innovative nature of this initiative; carried out for the first time in Chile. Sergi Loughney, Director of the Abertis Foundation, pointed out that the Road Safety Programmes and the target of “Zero accidents” are in the DNA of Abertis and its Foundation.
The action coincided with the IV anniversary of the “Alcohol Zero Tolerance Law” coming into force in Chile. The campaign, which in Chile is called, “If you change your wheels, don’t change them for these”, accompanied by a drawing of a wheelchair, forms part of the Abertis Group’s wider road safety programme, which in Spain has been rolled out in Madrid and Barcelona under the title, “You’ve got one life left. Don’t lose it on the road”, with activities taking place in centres of nightlife or within the setting of motorsport events.
