Madrid, 13 December 2019

Abertis Foundation will carry out an awareness campaign in the centre of Madrid tonight aimed at raising awareness among young people of the need to behave sensibly when behind the wheel, in particular when they are on a night out and at greater risk of not exercising due care and attention.

The activity was presented this morning by Inmaculada Sanz Otero, Spokesperson of the Government Area for Security and Emergencies at Madrid City Council, and Georgina Flamme, Manager of the Abertis Foundation. With the support of Madrid City Council, the municipal police, the Red Cross and the Guttmann Institute, this initiative is part of the "You only have one life" awareness-raising campaign that Abertis Foundation has been running in recent years, and which has also been successfully transferred to other countries where the Group operates.

In the words of Georgina Flamme, Manager of the Abertis Foundation, "At the Foundation we focus a good part of our efforts on educating some of the most vulnerable groups on road safety, such as young people going on a night out." She also added: "We are extremely grateful to Madrid City Council for the support they have given to this initiative, on such important dates as the Christmas festivities."

In turn, Inmaculada Sanz Otero, Spokesperson of the Government Area for Security and Emergencies at Madrid City Council, highlighted that xxxxxx".

Tonight's activity will take place at Plaza Barceló between 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. During this time, a group of monitors affected by a spinal cord injury as a result of a traffic accident will address people in the area to raise awareness of the importance of driving responsibly and highlight, drawing on their own experiences, the dangers and potential consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or with other distractions, such as using a mobile behind the wheel.

In addition to speaking with young people, the monitors will hand out leaflets with practical advice for safe driving and Red Cross volunteers will also take part. Likewise, municipal police agents will carry out preventive breath tests to help avoid possible traffic accidents.

"You only have one life" programme

The Abertis Foundation's "Te queda una vida" youth programme was created in 2009 with the aim of promoting safe driving among young people aged between 18 and 30 on a night out. Following several years of carrying out the initiative in Barcelona, it has been taken to other cities such as Madrid, Alicante and Peñíscola as well as being transferred to other countries where the Abertis Group operates such as Brazil, Argentina and Chile.

The campaign is part of the extensive road safety programme which has been running since 2003 and includes supporting research, organising scientific conferences, road safety education in schools and other awareness-raising campaigns.

The Abertis Foundation was established in 1999 with the purpose of mitigating the impact of the Abertis Group's activities on the different regions and countries in which it operates. The Foundation has always prioritised initiatives related to road safety, the environment and social action, in keeping with Abertis' Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility Plan and the Abertis Group's commitment to road safety.
