• The Italian Capital is the first venue for this itinerant Project which, thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Abertis Foundation and the Fundació Joan Miró, will show five pieces of the artist in Embassies and Consulates of Spain in the other countries between 2019 and 2020.
• The set of works that compose this sample includes the paintings Personnage, Oiseau I, II, and III and the sculptures Femme, Oiseau and Femme, all of the early seventies.
• Abertis, through its Foundation, collaborates with large cultural institutions in order to make culture accessible to the general public and to accompany the Public Administrations of the countries in which it is present.

The itinerant exhibition "Universo Miró", organized thanks to the collaboration between the Abertis Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and Fundació Joan Miró, was inaugurated today in the Residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Rome

Today’s inauguration ceremony was attended by the Spanish Ambassador in Rome, Alfonso Dastis; Abertis CEO,José Aljaro; The President of the Fundació Joan Miró, Jaume Freixa; the president and CEO of Atlanticia, Fabio Cerchiai and Giovanni Castellucci, respectively; and the director of the Abertis Foundation, Sergi Loughney.

The set of works that compose this sample include paintings from 1973 Personnage, Oiseau I, II, and III, of simplified composition, where Miró magnifies the images until he occupies practically the whole canvas with an energetic gesture. The sample is completed with the sculptures Femme, Oiseau and Femme, both also from the beginning of the seventies, which the title and the composition are based on the artist's vocabulary of signs.

Rome is the first venue for this itinerant presentation that will be followed by the embassies of Spain in Berlin, Dublin, Brussels and Paris between now and February 2, 2020. The aim is to bring this exhibition also to diplomatic and consular Representations of Spain in other countries, especially those in which the Abertis Group has a presence. The collaboration agreement, signed by Abertis, Fundació Joan Miró, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, on December 20, 2018, it also includes activities of educational character between communities in school premises, related to this exhibition.

Also, the Fundació Joan Miró has published for the occasion a publication that includes, among other texts, an essay signed by Ester Ramos, curator of the Collection area of the Fundació Joan Miró, which goes over the genealogy of the sign in the artist's work.

Abertis ' CEO, José Aljaro, has expressed that this exhibition is "Another example of Abertis ' commitment to the impulse of Spain's image and culture abroad".

The president of the Fundació Joan Miró, for his part, has thanked both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation and the Abertis Foundation "its complicity and collaboration in this project that allow us to continue to promote the work and the figure of Joan Miró as international benchmark”.

Sergi Loughney, director of the Abertis Foundation, has also expressed his gratitude to the Fundació Miró and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation to make possible this project for the promotion of Spanish and international culture and art.

The Fundació Joan Miró

The Fundació Joan Miró was created by the artist himself and opened its doors to the public in 1975. It has a unique collection of Joan Miró's works, his personal library and a file with all his preparatory drawings, which makes the Fundació a centre of reference in the investigation, divulgation and promotion of the production and the legacy of the artist.

Since its inauguration as the first museum in Barcelona dedicated to modern and contemporary art, the Fundació Joan Miró has also hosted numerous temporary exhibitions. It has also promoted the “Espai 13”, one of the first rooms dedicated to emerging artists and curators, and an active educational space focused on the promotion of creativity and a better understanding of modern and contemporary artistic practices.
