Specifically Abertis has been included in the FTSE4Good Global, FTSE4Good Europe and FTSE4Good IBEX indexes. The total ESG Rating has been assessed as 4.1 out of 5, placing the organization in the top 4% of its Supersector.
The top-rated areas were corporate governance and anticorruption at the governance level; climate change at the environmental level; and safety and health and labour standards on social matters.
The FTS4Good Index Series is designed to help investors integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into their investment decisions. The indexes identify companies that better manage ESG risks, and are used as a basis for tracker funds, structured products and as a performance benchmark. The ESG Ratings are used by investors who wish to incorporate ESG factors into their investment decision-making processes, or as a framework for corporate engagement and stewardship.
One of the essential features of the FTSE4Good evaluation is the requirement that any information included in the evaluation is publicly available, so this inclusion represents recognition of the exercise of transparency and accountability that Abertis has been developing for more than 10 years. Thus, whilst not considered an objective in itself, this new inclusion reinforces for us the actions being carried out in the management of environmental, social and governance matters in all activities and geographies. It demonstrates for us a positive reaction from the investment community and the various related stakeholders, towards actions that the organization is implementing.
This recognition adds to others received by the company in 2016. In September, Abertis renewed its presence in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, as the only Spanish company of its sector, Management of transport infrastructures.
In addition, in October, the company became part for the first time of the list A of CDP, the highest recognition of the Carbon Disclosure Project, which highlights organizations that get a high rating in terms of performance of greenhouse gas emissions during the year, as well as in transparency in the publication of their results.
